Welcome to Harlingen's Environmental Services Department solid waste and recycling webpage for kids. This interactive website is designed to teach you about storm water and the importance of waste reduction, recycling, and sold waste management.

Did you know that you live in a watershed? Yes, that's right; we all live in a watershed. What's a watershed? It's a fancy word describing an area that drains into our sheds water to a river or lake from higher to lower elevations.

The area you are in is a part of a watershed and the water is flowing somewhere. Every rain drop from a storm falls into a watershed. Where does the storm water from your yard go? It flows to the nearest lake, river or stream, and eventually into the ocean. Everyone lives in a watershed. How about the storm water from your school, where does it go? Is it in the same watershed as your yard? All of the water in Harlingen ultimately ends up in the Gulf of Mexico where you swim and play.

Many materials that we use every day can be reused and recycled. Explore the links on the bottom to learn more about recycling and ways you can reduce the amount that you throw away.

If you are looking for a fun way to learn about the environment, this is the page for you. We have included links to interactive games, word search puzzles, and coloring books you can download and print.

Just for kids.
