The Engineering Department is responsible for project management, plan review of various private developments, design of construction plans for various city projects including roadways and storm drain systems and performing project field inspections as necessary. The City Engineer also serves as an advisor to the Planning Commission and provides assistance to other City departments in resolving engineering problems.
Program Goal
Promote safety, order, convenience, prosperity and general welfare of the citizens of Harlingen in accordance with present and future needs of the City. Provide efficiency and economy in the process of development, for convenience of traffic and circulation of goods, for good civic design by enforcing adopted rules and standards.
Goals & Objectives for 2020-2021
- Seek additional grant funding and opportunities through federal, state, and external partners to continue to leverage City funds for drainage and street projects.
- Continue to aid citizens in request for information regarding drainage and traffic control devices.
- Update the City of Harlingen’s Detail Standards.
- Provide thorough oversight and coordination for all City construction projects.
- Update the City’s infrastructure database which includes paved and unpaved roads and alleys, sidewalks, drainage appurtenances and inlets, and traffic control devices.
- Complete the plans, specifications and solicit bids for the 2020-2021 Street Improvement Program Project
