City of Harlingen Featured on Board Game

Harlingen, Texas– It’s a game celebrating the Capital of the Rio Grande Valley and it can only be found at the local Walmart store.  Located at 1801 W. Lincoln Street, the store began selling the localized version of the Monopoly board game this week.

Harlingen Opoly features popular locations such as the Iwo Jima Memorial and the Harlingen Arts and Heritage Museum as well as  local events such as Jackson Street Market Days and The Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival.

Harlingen City Manage Dan Serna says “What a cool and unique way to promote our City.  I think it’s also a fun way to learn some of what Harlingen has to offer.”

The game was the idea of Harlingen Walmart Store Manager, Tino Vidaurri who says he was approached by a third party vendor and thought it would be a great idea.  “I felt people would really like to play a game featuring places they’re familiar with and after talking it over with my District Manager, I reached out to the store directors in our region which includes Port Isabel, Los Fresnos, Brownsville, San Benito, Donna, Weslaco, and Edcouch Elsa and they also agreed to get them for their stores.”

Vidaurri ordered 750 copies for the Harlingen store.  He received 240 this week with the remaining 510 expected to arrive early next week.

He says they’ve only been on the shelf since Thursday and they’re flying off the rack.
