LRGVDC - AREA AGENCY ON AGING TO PROVIDE RESIDENTIAL CLEAN-UP ASSISTANCE TO FLOOD IMPACTED SENIOR CITIZENS

Weslaco, TX – Due to the recent flood events in the area, LRGVDC Area Agency on Aging (AAA) announces a short-term assistance program aimed at maintaining the health, safety, and independence to vulnerable seniors in the community.

Beginning today, eligible individuals may contact LRGVDC -AAA for assistance with residential clean-up for flood-impacted homes. Eligibility includes individuals aged 60 and above, who live alone with limited supports.
A representative of LRGVDC-AAA will be assigned to each eligible senior to coordinate services involving removing debris from their homes that have been damaged by the flood which may include damaged furniture, appliances, carpet, and removal of damaged sheetrock.

Flooded homes present a number of health and safety hazards to vulnerable seniors such as potential for illness, respiratory issues, digestive concerns, and susceptibility for falls, trips, and injury.
LRGVDC-AAA is closely coordinating with impacted cities and the Hidalgo County Community Service Agency to assist in identifying eligible seniors.

The Area Agency on Aging is a division of the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council (LRGVDC) with the objective of providing services to persons 60 years of age and older. Services may include direct case management and resource referrals.
