Harlingen, Texas– Girl Scout Troop #4138 has chosen to raise funds and provide some changes at the Harlingen Humane Society. The project includes constructing two rest shelters complete with a shaded area and water bowls for the animals as they’re taken for their daily walk. The troop is also working on raising awareness in the community of the basic needs of all animals.
City staff will work with the troop members to ensure that all building codes are met and that the structures are built in accordance with City ordinances.
The community project will help the troop achieve the Silver Award ranking which happens to be the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. According to the Girl Scout website, working for a Silver Award gives the cadettes a chance to do big things and make a difference in the community. The troop is already raising funds and hopes to complete the project by September.
Thank you Girl Scout Troop #4138 for choosing to do big things in Harlingen. Some of the members attended the June 6, City Commission Meeting to brief City leaders about their plans. The project was approved unanimously.
