June Is Homeownership Month

Harlingen, Texas– June is National Homeownership Month, and it didn’t go unnoticed by the Harlingen City Commission during the June 6, 2018, regularly scheduled City Commission Meeting.

A proclamation was presented to the Community Development Block Grant Advisory Board in recognition for all they do to help people own a home.

National Homeownership month is a time to celebrate and promote the American Dream of owning a home.

The Harlingen CDBG Program receives federal funds from The Department of Housing and Urban Development to rehabilitate or construct homes for residents of low to moderate incomes.  HUD works in partnership with state and local governments, community groups, and the private sector to make the most effective use of federal funds through a combination of housing counseling, down payment assistance, and closing cost assistance.  Numerous homes have been built in Harlingen with funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The City’s CDBG Department is housed at the Lon C. Hill Building located at 502 E. Tyler. To find out more about the services the department provides visit or call (956) 216-5180. Mayor Boswell also thanked the CDBG Advisory Board Members for their community service and commitment to the City.
