Cameron County Reports Four Deaths Tonight and 87 New COVID-19 Cases

Cameron County has received confirmation of four additional COVID-19 related deaths of Cameron County residents. The individuals were a 23-year male from Rancho Viejo, a 42-year male from Harlingen, and a 68-year old male from San Benito. In addition, there was a 92-year old female resident of The Rio at Fox Hollow. This raises the number of COVID-19 related deaths in Cameron County to 67. 

Cameron County has also received confirmation of an additional 87 case reports of COVID-19. This includes the following:

This raises the total number of COVID-19 cases to 2,779 in Cameron County. There have also been an additional two hundred and eight (208) individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 2,004.

Cameron County Public Health continues to work with the six nursing home facilities and one detention center in addressing the COVID-19 outbreaks. To date, the Cameron County cases arising from the Veranda Nursing Home has included 35 employees and 64 residents who have tested positive, including 11 who have passed away. Spanish Meadows in Brownsville also has 6 employees and 11 residents who have tested positive, including 2 who have passed away. The Rio at Fox Hollow in Brownsville has 35 employees and 36 residents who have tested positive, including 6 who passed away. Alta Vista in Brownsville has 1 employee and 4 residents who have tested positive. Harlingen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center currently has 4 employees and 2 residents who have tested positive. Ebony Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation has 1 employee and 3 residents who have tested positive. In addition, Port Isabel Service Processing Center has 10 employees and 75 detainees who have tested positive.

As part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations, contact tracing as needed, and continues to monitor the situation.
