Some Harlingen City Facilities Reopen with Limitations

HARLINGEN, Texas- With the expiration of the Cameron County Shelter in Place Order and the Governor’s Order to Reopen Texas as outlined in Executive Order (GA-18) the City of Harlingen, is preparing to reopen some facilities where applicable.

 

Below is an updated list of City facilities that will reopen on May 1, 2020, with a limited capacity of 25 percent, a face cover, and social distancing requirements.

 

 

  • Harlingen Public Library
  • Museum
  • Downtown Harlingen Office
  • Lon C. Hill Building- permits, birth & death certificates
  • Harlingen Police Department- front lobby
  • Police Records
  • Farmers Market
  • Open spaces at city parks such as walking/running trails so long as no more than four participants are playing together at one time.

Governor Greg Abbott’s Executive Order (GA-18) also allows all retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters, and malls to reopen with a limited capacity of 25 percent.

 

Churches and places of worship can also hold in-person services as long as there is a six-foot buffer around each family.

 

The Governor has made it clear that his Reopen Texas Plan does not require businesses to reopen but they can if they prioritize the health and safety of their customers by following the 25 % capacity limitation and implement safety protocols.

 

 

Not all of the City facilities will reopen on May 1.  Here is the list of City facilities that will remain closed/postponed:

 

  • Harlingen Recycling Center
  • Swimming pools & Splash Pad
  • Playground equipment at all parks
  • Exercise equipment at all parks
  • Private events at City facilities
  • City rentals
  • All city-sponsored or co-sponsored events
  • Jackson Street Classic Car show
  • Downtown Morning Coffee
  • Jackson Street Market Days
  • Harlingen Art NightMunicipal Court will continue to offer video conferencing instead of face to face court hearings.Call (956)216-5122 for more information.

 

These closures/postponements will remain in effect until further notice as a pro-active measure to limit the spread of COVID-19.
