Dozens Participate in City Leaders Walk
02/04/2020

HARLINGEN, TEXAS–Close to 60 community members braved the cool morning weather on February 1 to walk with the Harlingen Fire Department.

It was part of the City’s Walk with Harlingen Leaders in support of the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge happening through March 1.  The challenge promotes healthy living and creating healthier lifestyles.  Harlingen has won first place in the mid-size category for the past two years.  The eight-week competition encourages participating cities to hold events that promote healthy habits for the community.  The more people participate and log their activity, the more points the City gets.

Everyone can participate in the HEB Community Challenge and earn points for the City and the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District by registering at itstimetexas.org.   You can earn points by adding your own personal activity such as drinking water, exercising, walking, or even eating healthy.

The next Walk with the Harlingen City Leaders is scheduled for February 21, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. at McKelvey Park with Harlingen Police Chief Mike Kester and the Harlingen Police Department followed by Walk with Commissioner Frank Puente on February 22 at 8:30 a.m. at Pendleton Park, and Walk with the Mayor on February 29 at 8:30 a.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Harlingen.
