Harlingen, Texas–The Christmas Holiday is around the corner and the City of Harlingen wants to help you get in the holiday spirit with two free events happening this week.
We kick it off with the 33rd Annual Lighting of the Arroyo Festival on Thursday, December 5 at McKelvey Park. The free festival starts at 6:30 p.m. and runs through 8:30 p.m. Enjoy Christmas performances, the official lighting ceremony and then take a picture with Santa Claus. As always, there will be food vendors.
On December 5, McKelvey Park will be closed to the public as City employees set up for the 6:30 event. In addition, the portion of 77 Sunshine Strip in front of the park will close prior to the event to allow pedestrians to safely cross the street.
The free fun continues on Friday, December 6 with the annual Jaycees Christmas Parade featuring a Candyland Christmas. The parade starts at 7 p.m. and goes through Harlingen’s historic Jackson Street.
People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to watch the parade which runs west starting at 4th Street. The parade will then turn left on E Street then again at Van Buren where it will end at the railroad tracks.
