HARLINGEN, Texas– Constitution Day is observed annually on September 17 to commemorate the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787.
The constitution was adopted by the Constitutional Convention held in Philadelphia for that purpose. It is the framework for the federal government and is the highest form of law in the country. It also protects us the people and guarantees our basic rights.
During the regularly scheduled City Commission Meeting of September 4, Mayor Chris Boswell presented members of the Lt. Thomas Barlow Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution with a proclamation recognizing September 17-23 as Constitution Week in Harlingen. Thank you to Ann T. Roberts, Dawn Johnston, Dana Clark, Cynthia Worley, and Pat Keltner for their leadership to help preserve this annual observation.
