Free Emergency Preparedness Sessions

Harlingen, Texas– Being prepared can often time means the difference between life and death especially when it comes to catastrophic events such as hurricanes.  That’s why the Harlingen Emergency Management team is offering the public free two-hour sessions.


The sessions are scheduled for September 12, 17, and 19 from 6-8 p.m.  All three will include information on the importance of being prepared such as:


  • when to get prepared
  • how to create a family plan
  • what items should be included in your emergency kit
  • what to do if you live in a mobile home
  • what to do in case of a flood
  • what to do in case your vehicle is trapped in rapidly moving water
  • what information to provide when calling 9-1-1
  • benefits of Reverse 9-1-1



The first session on September 12 will take place at the Harlingen Cultural Arts Center located at 576 ‘76 Drive just behind the Public Library.  The second and third session scheduled for September 17 and 19 will be held at the Harlingen Community Center located at 201 E. Madison.  Registration is not necessary.  Those interested simply need to show up.
