More than $20 Million Already Awarded In FEMA & SBA Assistance

Harlingen, Texas–FEMA and SBA have each now provided more than $10 million to Rio Grande Valley residents affected by the June 24-25 flooding.


SBA has approved $467,100 for businesses and $10,170,600 for residents to help rebuild and recover from this disaster.  FEMA has approved $9.6 million in Housing Assistance through its Individual and Households Program which includes housing assistance to help pay for rent for those homes that are not habitable and for home repairs.  More than $1.4 million was approved for Other Needs Assistance which helps with disaster expenses that can make it hard for people to get back on their feet, such as clothes for work, childcare, and disaster-related funeral expenses.


Meantime, FEMA reports that The National Flood Insurance Program has already approved claims worth $37.7 million with the average payment being $55,662.


RGV residents affected by the flooding have until September 16 to register for assistance.  The Disaster Recovery Centers remain open in Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy County.  They are open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Saturday s from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.


All three centers will be closed on Labor Day.
