CERT Presented with Community Service Award

Harlingen, Texas–Members of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) were presented with a Community Service Award by Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell and the City Commission.  The award was presented to CERT volunteers Mary Ellen Swartz, Marsha Santow, Bill Snyder, and Janie Saenz during the City Commission Meeting of August 7 for their dedication, contributions, and help during and after disasters and other city improvement projects for the common good of the people. 


CERT is a volunteer program sponsored by the Harlingen Fire Department that offers education and training for disasters that could happen in the community.  CERT members learn how to organize basic disaster response and promote preparedness by hosting and participating in community events.

The CERT Team meets every second Tuesday of the month at Fire Station 8 located at 3510 E. Grimes Street.  There is no charge to participate.  Anyone interested in participating can call (956)230-8011 or send an email to
