Harlingen, Texas–Hundreds of Harlingenites gathered at Lon C. Hill Park on August 6 for the Harlingen Police Department National Night Out celebration. Observed nationwide, on the first Tuesday in August, NNO promotes police-community partnerships. The event focuses on raising awareness by working together.
During the event, the Harlingen Police Department like others across the nation takes time to showcase programs the department has implemented to help build a lasting relationship with the community such as neighborhood watch, the Say No To Drugs Campaign, and town watch programs.
National Night Out dates back to the early ’80s when it became an annual event. It began as a means for neighbors to come out of their homes and meet their neighbors to ensure that they were aware of who was living among them and what they were doing. Today, many celebrations include music, food, games, and give-a-ways.
Here in Harlingen, folks enjoyed free hotdogs and cold water. They also enjoyed playing games like the dunking booth and music provided by Chris Marshall.
Thank you HPD for another fun event.
