Harlingen, Texas–No word yet from the Federal Government whether areas of the Rio Grande Valley affected by the June 24 rain event will get a disaster declaration. If the President does sign the Federal Disaster Declaration, those affected will be able to apply for help to recuperate.
Locally, Habitat for Humanity has raised funds and is accepting applications to help those whose homes were damaged through its Disaster Recovery Program. To find out more about this program visit http://www.habitatrgv.org/disaster-relief or call 956-230-3850.
Meantime, there is also help for those still cleaning up. Volunteers with the Valley Flooding Home Cleanup Program are helping remove sheetrock and cleanup homes. Anyone needing the help must register by July 17 by calling the Valley Flooding Cleanup Hotline (956) 465-4127.
The City of Harlingen will keep you informed on the status of the Disaster Declaration.
