Harlingen, Texas–Three Harlingen Fire Fighters today moved up in the ranks. Lieutenant Ruben Balboa was appointed as the department’s second Assistant Fire Chief while Driver Gary Tipton was promoted to Lieutenant and Firefighter Florencio Villarreal was promoted to Driver.
Joined by family and friends all three were sworn in during a special ceremony at the department’s Emergency Operations Center located on the northeast side of town.
Assistant Chief Balboa has been with the department for 26 years. As the second Assistant to Fire Chief Roy Rubio, he will oversee the Training Division. Meantime, Lt. Tipton joined the fire department in 2012 while Driver Villarreal joined in 2015.
City Commissioner Richard Uribe was on hand for the short ceremony and wished them well. Assistant Chief Balboa, Lt. Tipton, and Driver Villarreal the City of Harlingen congratulates you.
