Harlingen, Texas– Harlingen District 1 Commissioner, Richard Uribe has been sworn-in for a second term in office. Uribe defeated challenger J.J. Gonzalez in a runoff election on June 22. The final vote tally was 268 for Uribe and 171 for Gonzalez.
Juvenile Judge, Migdalia Lopez administered the oath of office during a special meeting of the City Commission on July 2.
Uribe was first elected in 2016. He is a business owner and has served as Chairman of the Harlingen Waterworks System Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Saint Paul Lutheran School Board.
Family and friends joined him at Harlingen Town Hall for the short swearing in ceremony where he vowed to continue working for the betterment of District 1 and the entire City of Harlingen.
Harlingen City Commissioners are elected by district and serve three year terms.
