Honor the Fallen with a Red Poppy

Harlingen, Texas– In 1924, the distribution of poppies became a national program of The American Legion to remember the sacrifice by those who served and died for our country in all wars. Today, Poppy Day is celebrated all over the world.  In the United States, Poppy Day falls on the Friday before Memorial Day

Mayor Chris Boswell recently proclaimed May 24, 2019, as Poppy Day in Harlingen and presented American Legion Post 205 with a proclamation stating “A nation at peace must be reminded of the price of war and the debt owed to those who have died in war.”  He encouraged the community to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom by wearing a Memorial Poppy on this day.

The City of Harlingen remembers and honors those who answered the call to arms and fought for our liberties.
