Harlingen to Canvass Votes and Swear-In Mayor and District 2 Commissioner

Harlingen, Texas– Harlingen City Commissioners will hold a special meeting Wednesday, May 15 to canvass the votes from the May 4, 2019, General Municipal Election.


The official vote count is required to certify the election. The purpose is to account for every ballot cast and ensure that every vote cast is included in the election totals.


More than ­­­­3900 registered voters participated in the election casting ballots for Mayor, Commissioner District 1, and Commissioner District 2. The unofficial results are as follows:

The special meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be followed by the swearing in of Mayor Chris Boswell and District 2 Commissioner Elect Frank Puente.


The second regularly scheduled City Commission Meeting of May will follow.  City Commission Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month at City Hall located at 118 E. Tyler Avenue.  Special Meetings are held as needed.



Meantime, the proposed date for the District 1 Runoff Election for District 1 is June 22, 2019, with early voting on June 10-18.  The City Commission will consider the proposed date at next week’s regularly scheduled meeting.
