Library Teen Room Now Open
04/12/2019

Harlingen, Texas– This week, the Harlingen Public Library officially opened its brand new Boggus Family Teen Space.  A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on April 11 to mark the new addition designed specifically for teenagers.

The new room was created thanks to a generous donation by the Junior League of Harlingen.  The League chose the development as its 70th Anniversary Commemorative Project and raised $165,000 to get it done. League President Christina Araguez says once the decision was made to move forward with the project, the planning and raising the money took them almost three years to accomplish with the help of past and current members.

Mayor Chris Boswell thanked the members of the Junior League for thinking of the teens in the community. “It’s really a great thing to be able to live a community when things kinda happen on their own and this is one of those things with the determination and the vision of a great local organization like the Junior League who has done so much for our community already. And to take on another major project like this that allows us to add this teen center that will attract young people to give them opportunities to learn and to have a place of their own where they can develop and do good things and be around positive people. All I can say is Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!”

Mayor Boswell also thanked the library staff and the library board for the wonderful work they do.

The area is almost 1300 square feet and includes a commons area, a media lounge, a Teen Book Collection, a quiet focus pod, and a transition area from the adult commons area to the teen area.
