Harlingen Public Library to Celebrate Library Week with Numerous Activities

Harlingen, Texas– This week, the Harlingen Public Library is celebrating National Library Week with special programs, costumes, and contests throughout the week, with the festivities culminating on Friday with the National Library Week Celebration from 4 – 7 p.m.

The celebration will showcase the many nonprofit organizations, educational groups, and businesses that support the library, promote literacy, and strengthen the community.  It will include stories read by community heroes, crafts for all ages, games, a bounce house, face painting, music, and the annual Mascot Dance-Off.

In addition, the Library and the Harlingen Housing Authority, through the Book Rich Environments (BRE) program, will provide books for the children to keep. The BRE is a collaboration between non-profit organizations, national government agencies, and corporate publishers that aims to infuse public housing communities with a culture of books and connect families with reading-related resources.

Another focus of the event will be the new Boggus Teen Room. The Harlingen Public Library’s Teen Advisory Group and the Junior League of Harlingen will open the Boggus Teen Room to the community.  The Junior League of Harlingen chose to create the teen room as its 75th anniversary project.

The library is open Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. – 8 p .m.; Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Sunday 1-5 p.m.
