Harlingen, Texas–Anyone who has been lucky enough to view the Annual “New Quilts from an Old Favorite” knows how beautiful and extraordinary these masterpieces really are. Well, the 2018 exhibit featuring bow tie block patterns is currently on display at the Harlingen Arts and Heritage Museum and it will definitely not disappoint.
The quilting competition and traveling display is coordinated by the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky and usually attracts quilters from around the world. Each year, organizers come up with a theme and the quilts must be a minimum of 50 inches in each dimension and not exceed 80 inches. They can be made by hand or by machine. The finalists and five award winning quilts then become part of the traveling exhibition.
You can get a close up look at them through February 17, 2019, right here in Harlingen. On February 14 contest finalist Cathy Grier will be at the museum at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to talk about her quilt titled The Perfect Nanny.
The museum is located at 2425 Boxwood and its open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
