Harlingen, Texas–A touching airline tradition was observed today as Frontier Airlines began service at Harlingen’s Valley International Airport. The low-cost carrier operates non-stop flights from Harlingen to Chicago-O’Hare and Denver International Airport. To mark the beginning of the new service, Harlingen along with South Padre Island officials held a short ceremony at the airport
The inaugural flight arrived at 9:27 a.m. from Denver and was met with the water salute. Mayor Chris Boswell and City Commissioners Victor Leal, Richard Uribe, and Tudor Uhlhorn were on hand to welcome the airline and its passengers. Saying it was a good day in Harlingen, Mayor Boswell thanked Frontier for choosing Valley International Airport to expand its service. “We’re very happy to have them in our community. This means more air service that opens up business travel to Chicago and leisure travel to Denver. It also means more people can visit our community and South Padre Island who is a partner in this venture as well.”
Kelsy Hustead, Manager of Corporate Communications at Frontier Airlines who was present for the official ribbon cutting ceremony thanked the Mayor for the warm welcome. “Frontier is very excited to be starting service to the Rio Grande Valley. We are proud to expand our unique brand of Low Fares Done Right to customers in the region. Frontier is always looking for ways to make travel easier and more affordable, and our re-imagined frequent flier program with family-friendly benefits and attainable elite status, as well as our reduced change fees-free if you make changes more than 90 days before you fly– are the latest examples of what we mean by Low Fares Done Right.”
To celebrate the start of this new low–cost service, Frontier is offering fares as low as $49 with flights to Denver on Thursdays and Sundays and flights to Chicago on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Frontier joins Southwest, United, Delta, Sun Country, and American Airlines at Valley International Airport.
The City of Harlingen welcomes Frontier Airlines.
