Harlingen Veterans Advisory Board to Make Wreaths Available for Veterans Buried in the Area

Harlingen, Texas– Each December Veterans groups and volunteers across the nation place a Christmas Wreath at as many veteran grave sites as they can.  This year, with the help of the Harlingen Advisory Board, National Wreath Day which is observed on December 15, will also be celebrated here.

The national observation got started at Arlington National Cemetery to honor and remember those who proudly served in the military. The Wreaths Across America website states there are more than 1400 participating locations in the U.S.

Advisory Board Chair Sal Carmona says they have identified 125 veteran grave sites at the Harlingen Cemetery on F Street and Ashland Memorial Park.  He says their goal is to have a wreath for each one of those 125 grave sites.

Board Member Lenore Combs says each wreath costs $15 and can be purchased by visiting their webpage at  or by calling her at 956-245-1276.

A Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at Pendleton Park/Veterans Memorial Park located at 1425 Morgan Boulevard at 11 a.m. on December 15.  Afterward, volunteers and loved ones will head to the cemeteries to lay the wreaths.

Cemeteries in San Benito, Weslaco, and La Feria are also participating and are fundraising within their own communities.  Any money raised in Harlingen will go toward purchasing wreaths for the 125 identified grave sites here.

Volunteers will be needed to help place the wreaths on December 15.  If you’d like to volunteer call Lenore.
