Harlingen, Texas– The City of Harlingen announces that AEP has finished replacing a blown transformer that caused the relocation of several departments this morning.
The blown transformer on 5th street affected the City’s Lon C. Hill building located at 502 E. Tyler and the neighboring business at 418 E. Tyler. The lack of power forced City departments housed at that location to move to City Hall and other city buildings. The temporary move stopped the issuance of building permits and birth and death certificates.
AEP anticipated it would take eight hours to replace the blown transformer but the work was complete by 2:30 p.m. City Departments are currently moving back to their respective offices and will be fully operational no later than 3 p.m.
The City of Harlingen thanks all the media outlets that helped keep the community informed.
