Don’t Give Mosquitoes a Biting Chance

Harlingen, Texas– Did you know that the most effective way to protect your family from mosquitoes is to get rid of them before they appear.

The City of Harlingen reminds you to be vigilant and continuously check your property for standing water that could serve as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

To keep mosquitoes from breeding on your property you can also do the following.

  • Frequently change the water in animal drinking bowls, bird baths, and animal troughs.
  • Dump extra water from flower pots.
  • Pick up kids toys such as swimming pools and buckets where stagnant water can collect.
  • Make sure the gutters drain properly.
  • Empty saucers under plants, or fill the saucers with sand.
  • Mow the lawn at least once a week because mosquitoes hid in the shade of tall grass.

Mosquitoes can breed in three days in as little as one drop of water so check your property for standing water regularly.  Don’t give them a biting chance.
