Teen Room Construction Begins at Harlingen Library

Harlingen, Texas– Yellow caution tape clearly outlines what will soon be a brand new room exclusively for teenagers at the Harlingen Public Library. Construction of an almost 1300 square feet area is currently underway thanks to the Junior League of Harlingen.

Members of the League raised $165,000 for the project. The room will include an entry lounge, satellite space that will allow active participation with personal devices for individuals or as a group, a commons area, a media lounge, mobile stacks placed strategically to give focus to the Teen Book Collection, a quiet focus pod, and a transition area from the adult commons area to the teen area.

Library Director Dauna Campbell says this will be a place where youngsters aged 12-18, will be able to read, do homework, work on a computer or sit and converse with people their own age.  The room is on the first floor of the library the adjacent to the new adult commons area and in direct line of sight to a future reception desk.

The Junior League of Harlingen chose the project as its 70th Anniversary Commemorative Project.  The Teen Room should be completed before the end of the year.

The Harlingen Public Library is located at 410 76’ Drive.
