Stephen Scot Mayer, Interim Chief of Police

Stephen Scot Mayer was appointed Interim Chief of Police of the City of Harlingen, Texas in December of 2013 and commands a department of 136 total sworn and 37 total civilian staff.  Prior to this appointment, Stephen Mayer served the community as the Assistant Chief of Police.  A position he held from August 2010 until his appointment as Interim Chief.  Stephen Mayer’s full service time, with the City of Harlingen Police Department, equates to over twenty-five years.  He holds to the philosophy of community service, and believes that a police department should,

  • Preserve and strengthen the principles of democracy,
  • Place its highest value on the preservation of life,
  • Ensure the prevention of crime is the Department’s number one operational priority,
  • Involve the community in the delivery of service while being held accountable for the service delivered, and
  • Be committed to professionalism while maintaining the highest standards of integrity.

  • 2007 Graduate Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (Sam Houston State University)
  • 2011 Graduate Rural Executive Management Institute (University of Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute)
