The Animal Shelter Advisory Committee shall meet at least three (3) times per year to discuss and insure compliance with the applicable Animal Shelter regulations as established by the Texas Department of Health, to request technical assistance from members of the city staff and to make recommendations for revisions, review, or other  matters concerning the operation of the city’s animal shelter.

The Animal Shelter Advisory Committee shall be composed of six (6) voting members which shall include at least one licensed veterinarian, one municipal official, one person whose duties include the daily operation of an animal shelter, one representative from an animal welfare organization and two citizens.  Each voting member shall be appointed by the Mayor and City Commission and must be at least 18 years of age and serve a minimum term of two years.  No limit shall be set on the number of terms a member may serve.  The Mayor and Commissioners shall appoint or reappoint new committee members whenever it deems necessary.  If a member of the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee vacates office during his/her term, a replacement appointment shall be made by the Mayor or Commissioner who appointed such Committee member.  The Mayor and City Commissioners shall be ex-officio members of the Board.
